Weekend in town (with the kids)

Wonderlab is Bloomington's children's museum, which also includes many engaging activities for parents!

Friday

Arrival: Hotel Check-In—Check in to your hotel; if you’re wondering where to stay, check out this list. If you’re eager to try one of Bloomington’s excellent outdoor adventures, book an outdoor cabin or go camping.

Dinner: Mother Bear’s Pizza—Take the whole family out to Mother Bear’s Pizza (1428 E. 3rd Street), voted best pizza in Indiana by USA Today. Be sure to try their unique toasted sesame thin crust pizza and top it off with any of the four gourmet sausages available.

Evening Activity: Twin Lakes Recreation Center—Enjoy Bloomington’s state of the art recreation center (1700 W. Bloomfield Road) while the kids enjoy Kids Cove, a separate area for kids’ own fitness activities.

 

Saturday

Breakfast: Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse—If you’re looking for a breakfast spot the whole family will enjoy, look no farther than Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse (125 N. College). From classic breakfasts to kid-friendly entrees, everyone will leave happy and ready to start the day in Bloomington.

Morning Activity: Wonderlab—Head over to Wonderlab, the Museum of Health, Science, and Technology (308 W. 4th Street). Kids will love the hands-on exhibits, and parents will be amazed as well!

Lunch: Any 4th Street Restaurant!—Let the kids choose their favorite country while strolling down 4th street, Bloomington’s ethnic restaurant hub. From Vietnamese to Moroccan, 4th Street offers a diverse assortment of restaurants that will surely offer everyone a new favorite dish!

Afternoon Activity: Explore the great outdoors—South Central Indiana is known for its great outdoor activities. Try hiking in the Hoosier National Forest or keep it simple and stroll the Indiana University campus, named one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States. In the summer, head over to Bryan Park for their large outdoor recreational area and public pool.

Dinner: Village Deli—Enjoy the Village Deli’s (409 E. Kirkwood) diverse selection of sandwiches, or indulge in breakfast at dinner with one of the deli’s famous ginormous pancakes.

Evening Activity: Check out Rhino’s All Ages Music Club (331 S. Walnut) to experience emerging and established young musicians in a kid-friendly atmosphere.

 

Sunday

Breakfast: Runcible Spoon (412 E. 6th)—A Bloomington tradition, noted by Esquire in 2009 as one of the best breakfast restaurants in the U.S. Be sure to try the coffee, which is roasted in-house.

Departure: Mathers Museum of World Cultures— Take a tour of the world at the Mathers Museum of World Cultures (416 N. Indiana Avenue) with special exhibits and programs showcasing the diversity of countries all over the world.
