Weekend in Town (without the kids)

 

Nick's English Hut has been a Bloomington tradition for over 80 years.

Friday

Arrival: Check into the hotel—If you’re here for a romantic getaway, check into your room at the Grant Street Inn (310 N. Grant), a peaceful 24-room bed and breakfast. However, if you’re here for an outdoor adventure, check into the very tropical Fourwinds Resort and Marina on the shores of Lake Monroe (9301 S. Fairfax).

Dinner: Truffles Fine Cuisine—Enjoy a world-class dinner at Truffles Fine Cuisine (1131 S. College Mall Road). From exotic meats to fresh seafood and vegetables, Truffles offers a great selection of fine food, at an atmosphere that the kids wouldn’t tolerate.

Evening Activity: Nick’s English Hut— Remember the days before you had kids by visiting one of Bloomington’s oldest traditions, Nick’s English Hut (423 E. Kirkwood). Experience the history and spirit of IU Bloomington.

 

Saturday

Breakfast: The Uptown Café—Try the Uptown Café’s (102 E. Kirkwood) diverse weekend brunch, or play it safe by ordering the tantalizing Crème Brulee French Toast. It’s the American food you know and love blended with authentic Creole flavor—perfect to jumpstart your day in Bloomington!

Morning Activity: Farmer’s Market—A Bloomington favorite, the Farmer’s Market runs from April through November outside of City Hall on Morton and 7th streets. With a wide array of seasonal fruits and vegetables, wander through the market to savor the fresh atmosphere. Afterwards, stroll the streets of Kirkwood to explore the many local shops.

Lunch: Laughing Planet Cafe— Relax in Bloomington’s downtown at the Laughing Planet Café (322 E. Kirkwood). Go for a burrito and soak in the unique atmosphere. After lunch, head next door to Soma Coffee House for a famous smoothie at one of Bloomington’s quintessential coffee houses.

Afternoon Activity: Indiana University—See what a Big 10 University has to offer! Visit the IU Art Museum to view exhibits from all over the world or take a peak at the Jacobs School of Music to attend an opera or a ballet performance. During game season, cheer on the Hoosiers at your sport of choice!

Dinner: Upland Brewery—Continue the weekend fun at Upland Brewery (350 W. 11th). Arrive between 3pm and 5pm to get a tour of the brewery. Be sure to pair your meal with one of the locally crafted brews for a true taste of Bloomington.

Evening Activity: Watch a live performance—With over 16 live music venues and 10 performance theatres, you will find world-class entertainment.

 

Sunday

Breakfast: Finish your trip in Bloomington with a mouth-watering breakfast at the Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse (125 N. College Ave). From classic breakfasts to gourmet beverages, you will leave Bloomington with a pleasantly full stomach.

Departure: Oliver Winery—Head out to Oliver Winery (8024 State Road 37), Indiana’s oldest and largest winery. Learn about the art of wine production on a special winery tour, and enjoy the free wine tasting...but only a taste since you are driving home!
