Wonderlab Sets Attendance and Revenue Records

Bloomington, Indiana – A record-breaking 87,287 people visited the WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology in Bloomington last year. This represents a 9% increase over the previous year’s attendance. More than a third of WonderLab’s visitors live outside Monroe County, indicating that the award-winning science museum serves as one of Bloomington’s major tourist attractions.

The museum also reported a new record for earned revenue, which is derived from admissions, memberships, gift store sales, birthday parties, facility rentals, outreach services, and program fees. Earned revenues were 56% of total revenue for museum operations.

“We are thrilled that the experiences provided by WonderLab are valued by our members and other visitors, and we are deeply appreciative of their support of WonderLab's mission. These higher earned revenues, combined with charitable gifts, make it possible for us to develop new exhibits and programs that make people want to return to the museum,” said Catherine Olmer, WonderLab’s executive director.

Started in 1998, WonderLab opened in 2003 at its current site at 308 West Fourth Street. The hands-on science museum is on the B-Line Trail in the heart of the downtown Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD). WonderLab has served more than 650,000 visitors since 2003.
