Among the Stars

"I’m no longer surprised by the talent in Bloomington.

I don’t mean to say I don’t admire the people who live here. I have a job that involves talking with the most impressive individuals – artists and administrators, philanthropists and philosophers, poets and politicians. I might spend one day discussing the future of medicine, another learning about musical composition, and the next one hearing firsthand how a nation was built."

About the author: Elisabeth Andrews is a contributing editor for Bloom magazine and a frequent contributor to Indianapolis Monthly and other area publications. She has written two books on historic speeches and a rhyming ABC book about Bloomington. She is also a yoga and fitness instructor currently teaching at Vibe Yoga Studio.

Punchlist lauds Bloomington's quality of life

Local Abbey Stemler tells Punchnels.com why she wouldn't want to live in any other place, even though her daily commute can seem a bit long.

"At 6:20 every morning in Bloomington, I crawl into a van that drags me to Indianapolis and spits me out at Monument Circle. In the evenings, I chase it down like a train-hopper and try to get some work done until my stomach can’t take it any more.

The commute could be worse, way worse. My vanpool is incredibly well organized and cheap (thanks to the Central Indiana Commuter Service), and my commute is only fifty miles. However, I still get asked often: “why don’t you just move closer to work?”
